My Story

Hello! I'm Jan, a writer and illustrator. I make stories for children. I'm the creator of Mr Wolf's Pancakes, Little Robin Red Vest, StoryDog and How Can You Lose An Elephant? In fact, I have written and illustrated over 30 books so far.

I live and work in the beautiful Limousin region of France with my husband, six naughty cats, five silly goats (aka The Horn Section), a very excitable Standard Poodle and an equally amazing rescue dog – and two adorable but oh-so -mischievous donkeys. I love my rescue animals, they're a huge part of my life and my inspiration.

How I come up with my stories & characters

It all begins with an idea in my head, I sketch it and soon my characters start to appear, it really is a fun process…

What people are saying about my books…..

Jan Fearnley’s easy rhyming narrative is captivating and word perfect. We follow the path of pie with delight and anticipation.

This charming story is a real heart-warmer and has a lovely traditional vibe. It could become an annual family favourite and has an Aesop’s fable feel to it that makes it really memorable.
