I loved working on this book, because it was the first time in years that I had a full time editor – the wonderful Alice Corrie.

This time, the map folded out like this…hidden behind a set of blueprints. Spot the vetruvian hamster!

Flittermouse the bat

Spread from flying like Flittermouse

Etsuko tries all kinds of ways to realise her dream of flying..

Written and Illustrated by Jan Fearnley.

Etsuko the hamster is dazzled by a mysterious stranger who flies into Bottlenose Bay one day. She longs to fly like Flittermouse the bat and she won’t be put off when she is told by her friends that hamsters cannot fly.

But with a dream, a lot of determination and a little help from her friends, Etsuko discovers that anything is possible.

This is the second in the Bottlenose Bay stories.

I love the idea of a humble little hamster having incredibly big dreams. Maybe because we all deserve to have big dreams and there's hope that with help or luck or sheer hard work, we can make anything possible.

The main character Etsuko, is inspired by a lovely Japanese lady who used to write to me a lot. She used my books with her students and she used to send me the most amazing feedback on my stories.

It was such fun to bring in lots of the other characters from Bottlenose Bay.
